Photography A – Z the Easy Way: N – Noise

by E-NewsCast Team
March 10th, 2010

Pixels in your camera’s sensor pick up light. This light is converted into an electrical impulse which is then transferred as an image to your LCD camera screen or stored on the memory card.

Sometimes the electrical signal is not “clean” but muddied and “noisy”. This can lead to a degradation of the image especially visible on a printed or computer screen enlargement.

This happens through natural variation, internal electricity generation (the internal activity of the sensor) and temperature changes.

Noise becomes apparent on the image as an unnatural variation in colour of small spots or areas. This is especially so where the image is a uniform colour – such as sea, skies and large flat surfaces which are evenly lit. In the days of film, we would call this “grain”. But, whereas grain could be used to creative effect, noise is usually unwanted. In general, there is little you can do to

Photo Quality Ink Jet Printers: Why Mine Gathers Dust

by E-NewsCast Team
March 9th, 2010

I have a photo quality ink jet printer that can print very good colour photos, on photo style paper. I was intrigued when a number of well known retailers started offering to print digital photos for less than it costs me for the paper alone.

So, I ordered a group of 4×6 prints from one of them, by uploading the files to their website. If a store that does this is convenient to you, you can pick them up. If not, they will ship them for a small extra charge.

I ordered mine on a Tuesday, after supper, and they were delivered via regular mail that same Friday. I was impressed. That same store now has a walk-in 1 hour service for the same price.

To test the effect of extra pixels, I sent them the same photo 6 times. The only difference in the photos was the resolution: – 150 dpi (600

Choosing A Digital Camera Printer

by E-NewsCast Team
March 8th, 2010

There are so many types of digital camera printer on offer that finding the right one for your personal and business needs can be a very daunting task. However, there are a few main points to consider when choosing a digital camera printer that will help make the process a little easier. It isnÂ’t necessary to have a high-resolution digital camera printer to make great pictures. The higher the printer resolution you use, the more pixels you’ll need in your original image file to produce a decent size print with your digital camera printer. The actual file size (in pixels) of the image from your camera, divided by the printer resolution (in dots per inch), determines the final print size. So, if the image file size is 1,478 x 1,280 pixels, and you print the file at 163 dpi with your digital camera printer, the final …

The Alligator Farm – Home to Beautiful Winged Creatures

by E-NewsCast Team
March 7th, 2010

Your first thought when you read “Alligator Farm” might be “tourist trap,” but that could not be more inaccurate. And while the alligators are wonderful and plentiful at the place fondly referred to as the “Gator Farm,” it is the birds that attract the world’s best photographers.

The birds come each spring to the Gator Farm in St. Augustine, Florida, naturally. The gators keep tree-climbing prey away from the birds’ babies. While the gators sometimes hit the trees with their tails to knock eggs out of the nests, the birds know that their babies’ odds for survival are much better around the gators than without them.

The Gator Farm is home to a variety of bird species, including Great Egret, Cattle Egret, Roseate Spoonbills, Ibis, Great Blue, Tricolor, Black-Crowned and Yellow-Crowned Heron, and Wood Stork. The birds fly out of the area to collect sticks for nest building, pass them to their

Digital Cameras – Megapixels – How Many Do I Need?

by E-NewsCast Team
March 6th, 2010

It seems for every year that goes by digital camera manufacturers are adding one more Megapixel (Mp) to their cameras. Could it be true that an existing 7 megapixel camera that’s on the market now had an equivalent model of 6 megapixels last year and 5 megapixels the year before that? Next year, will you see the same camera in an 8 megapixel version? Where will we be in another 10 years time?

But do we need the latest 8, 10 or even 12 megapixel camera? Well I have two answers for that question:

Yes, a.) You’re a professional photographer and often have to produce very large high quality prints. b.) If you love to have the latest and most up-to-date gadgets and technology, and are quite happy to spend the extra money to get it, and a little extra more to store those larger files.

No, because the biggest photo that I’ll
