Precious Stones – The Big Five Part 3 The Sapphire

by E-NewsCast Team
March 13th, 2010

The sapphire, protector of the innocent, celestial guardian oftruth, bringer of health and youth, symbol of the heavens andbirthstone for the month of September, is in fact the same stoneas the ruby, the mineral corundum. The blue corundum, ranging in color from the lightest blue todeep blue and black, is the same stone as the ruby, the onlydifference being in the color. The choicest color is the softvelvety blue, approaching the cornflower in shade and exhibitingthat color vividly by artificial as well as by natural light. The deeper-colored stones are known as male, and thelight-colored ones as female sapphires. Although choicesapphires are rare, a much greater quantity of good and largestones are to be had than of rubies, and therefore the price ofa large sapphire does not advance in the same proportion as theprice of a large ruby. The word “sapphire” which means blue is of the same form innearly all …

The Sleepless Challenge

by E-NewsCast Team
March 12th, 2010

For me, it was “welcome to motherhood”. Ready or not, I was infor a wonderful experience. But my first challenge was toovercome the first few months of literally no sleep. It was myfirst baby, and I felt the pressure of doing everything “justright”. I wanted to be a perfect mom. But I quickly learned thatparenting was going to be a lifelong journey and that I wouldmake plenty of mistakes along the way. After stumbling out ofbed frequently for middle of the night feedings I’d wake uparound 6 a.m. to my newborn crying a joyful solo for yet anotherfeeding. After about three weeks of this, and then another monthI was completely worn out! Following a cesarean section, Iimmediately thought I could be Supermom, Grand InteriorDecorator, and the House Cleaning Company all at once, and ofcourse I thought I could simultaneously juggle theresponsibilities of a baby that I was so certain would …

Be The Parent

by E-NewsCast Team
March 11th, 2010

“No! No! It’s MINE!” my two year old screamed as I chasedaround her around the room for the remote control. A few minuteslater I was negotiating with her for a bottle of ketchup at thedinner table. And before bedtime, we watched a series of threeVeggie Tales videos over and over again until both of us wereexhausted for the night. After my daughter fell asleep, I beganto mull over in my mind the events of the day. Was my two yearold controlling my life? Ha! She sure was. But WHY? Wasn’t I theparent? That’s when I really began to do some soul-searching.I’d seen way too many parents of young children runningthemselves ragged to appease their children in every way. Givingin to each request was not something I’d planned on, but hadjust become the easy way out. I knew what I’d have to do. I’dhave to set rules and limits and follow …

March 10th, 2010

Your infant has just entered the world a few hours ago. He’sopening his eyes, rooting about, pushing his fists to his mouth, and seeking the comfort of the breast. It’s only natural thatyour baby would have the immediate instinct of wanting to nurse. In the beginning, it may be difficult for Baby to learn to latchon, but his instincts are there. The first few hours after birthare a window of opportunity for Mom to bring Baby close to herskin and give her baby a chance to try nursing. It is within thefirst two hours after birth that an infant is most eager to suck. Why is nursing the first few hours so important? Well, oneimportant reason nursing the first few hours is so important, isMom’s production of colostrum, which is the first foods yourbaby will receive from you (as opposed to mature breastmilk).Colostrum is a clear, yellowish substance that is often termed“liquid gold”, …

by E-NewsCast Team
March 9th, 2010

Plenty of moms today stay at home. After a year of battling thedecision to quit my job, I finally “put my foot down”, as theysay, and returned home to raise my daughter. It wasn’t theeasiest decision, but, let me tell you, it sure wasn’t thetoughest! I enjoy every minute of being home to raise my child.Furthermore, being home has done wonders for my family as aunit, and drawn us closer together. When I was working my fulltime job I barely had time to prepare a decent meal. But today?I’m a health nut, and so is the whole family (ha)! But now, there’s another dilemma.Being a stay at home mom has not affected my personality, ofcourse, so I still have a lot of creative energy pent up inside!I thought to myself one day, “what better way to use this energythan to work towards a goal—perhaps start a business?” Not onlywould it bring …

Materialism and Individuals

by E-NewsCast Team
March 8th, 2010

Perhaps I could make a lot of money by founding a Thinker’sAnonymous organization. It surely is the rage to eschew thinking. Helping people achieve great things is worthwhile to your SELF. If you do not know your SELF you will hurt those you try tomake do what you want them to. This macho control mechanismbuilt into materialistic society is exemplified by professionalsand experts who are giving drugs to manage ‘money-trees’(students and Ritalin, or old people and ECT especially) andmanaging bureaucracies or saying they are ‘just’ as they lead usto in-’just’-ice: 1. War 2. Religion and divisive ethnicideologies – rather than ecumenical spiritual goals 3. Hate forothers and putting women in a second class status 4. Insistingon education to make others BE like them 5. Pursuit of powerrather than LOVE and creativity It is summed up in the words of the noted journal TheEconomist in their millennium issue – they …
