Word Count: 810Oh My God A Girl!“OH MY GOD A GIRL!!” This was the cry I was met with when Iarrived to meet our group for a 5 day canoe trip down NewZealand’s Wanganui River. “Are you sure you know what you’redoing?!” a wary fellow in his 50’s exclaimed. I assured him thatsince I knew a heck of a lot more than he did it was in his bestinterest to stick with me. The rest of the group, a collectionof 10 men and women from New Zealand, looked on with someamusement and guarded concern. Faces of Mom

by E-NewsCast Team
February 5th, 2012

I grew up living with my mother, and sometimes my father when hewasn’t underneath the ocean in a submarine. I wasn’t the onlychild at home, but it often felt that way, and not just when Iwould lock my sister in the basement, either—my mom was good atmaking me feel like the best pumpkin in the patch. My mom was a working mom. If she wasn’t inthe house, she was at the blood drive or the elementary schoolor outside crying because she had just put another dent in thecar. Our car had lots of dents. She was a woman who wore lots of different faces. I called them“looks,” and I knew all of them. Being the kind of kid that Iwas, this was a handy thing to know—especially if her …

by E-NewsCast Team
February 4th, 2012

Clockwatchers is about living your life on someone else’s time.Four temporary office workers meet in a featureless building. Wemeet the heroine, Iris, as she spends much of her first daysitting in a chair where she was told to “wait till someonecomes for you.” The building, with its square corners andcubicles, becomes a metaphor for the box that containseveryone’s dreams. To escape they will have to think outside the box,, yetas the film begins, each temp focuses on her immediate fourwalls. Iris seems overqualified yet she lacks confidence. Shetells her father she feels comfortable and accepted in this joband doesn’t want to move on. Margaret deals with frustration byrebelling and acting out. She steals time from the company andcosmetics from the stores. Jane is engaged to …
