The following article will give you some insight into howmaternity styles work and to help you decide what styles willbest suit your needs. The sizing of maternity wear is fairly straight forward; it isgenerally the same size as pre-pregnancy clothing. So if youwere a size 14 prior to falling pregnant then this is the sizeyou should choose. Of course as with all things there areexceptions to the rules. 1. If you are pregnant with multiples then it is advised thatyou go up a size.2. If you have a tendency in your non-pregnant life to fluctuatebetween sizes then it would also be advisable to go up a sizefor later in your pregnancy. Various styles are on offer in skirts, pants and shorts thatcover a wide range of preferences, you will see commonly usedterms to describe maternity styles which are as follows: Under tummy – Obviously as the name suggest this style sits justunder your tummy, normally recommended for 2-7 months althoughmany wear them to term with comfort. Advantages – Your bump can grow with out any restriction, nopressure to be felt on your stomach which can upset some womenlater in pregnancy. Disadvantage – No feeling of support, some women feel they needthe extra support in front as their tummy expands. Mid and Over tummy – These styles sit either midway over yourabdomen or completely over it. These styles are generallyrecommended for 2-9 months. There are 3 different designs tothis type.1. Elastic waist – has an elastic waist with extra material inthe front. Advantages – expands naturally as your belly does. Disadvantages – extra material in front can look a ‘littlebaggy’ in early pregnancy (although you can spread it out alongthe elastic).2. Belly Panel – has a front panel that is made from stretchablefabric. Advantages – expands naturally as your belly does, tends togive more feeling of support right throughout your pregnancythan your elastic waist style. Disadvantages – Panel may remain stretched after pregnancy;make sure you buy ones made of high quality.3. Adjustable elastic – Have adjustable elastic usually oneither side and made of stretch material. Advantages – You select how firm you want this style to sit, also helps post pregnancy as you can return them to the originalsize. Gives a feeling of support. Disadvantages – None. Fold over top – Fold over top is made from stretch material, itgives you the choice of where you want the waist to sit, you canwear them folded down early in your pregnancy and unfold them asyour bump grows. These are one of the most popular stylespurchased through our store. Recommended for 2-9 months. Advantages – Gives you extra feeling of support if you feel youneed it or you can leave them folded the choice is yours. Disadvantages – None, although cheap brands may lose someelasticity following pregnancy.
